Can a chiropractor help chronic pain?

It can be one part of the plan. Long-lasting pain often involves a sensitized nervous system as well as the painful area. At Ember Active Performance in Colorado Springs, Dr. Delmi Barrera, DC, combines hands-on care, rehab exercises, and lifestyle changes to calm that sensitivity and help you move with less pain.

Understanding Chronic Pain

Chronic pain is complex and can present as widespread discomfort, as in fibromyalgia, or as persistent pain in one area long after an initial injury. Importantly, pain does not always equal harm. It is a neurological signal triggered when a sensitivity threshold is reached, which can lower over time for a variety of factors, even in the absence of tissue damage.

While addressing the painful area is important, a holistic approach is essential. We identify and modify lifestyle factors that may be driving inflammation or sensitivity, while working to regulate the nervous system through targeted care and rehabilitation to reduce pain and build resilience.

It depends on the cause and how long you've had it. Many people notice a change within the first few visits, and we'll give you an estimate after your exam.

Will I need care forever?

No. The goal is to build your own ability to manage pain, with a home exercise plan as you improve.

When should I see a doctor instead?

Get medical care for pain with unexplained weight loss, fever, night pain that doesn't ease with rest, or new weakness or numbness.

What does it cost?
